NSW Parliament House, Family & Community Services, The Art of Ageing 2018 Exhibition - Wrap Up

This project was awarded after a NSW Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) representative saw our previous work curating The Art of Ageing Exhibition 2017 with Deloitte.

The goal of The Art of Ageing Exhibition 2018 was to show a variety of cultures and backgrounds; covering topics which supported the current NSW Ageing Strategy through photography. It showed the unique and diverse ways in which older people contribute to, and enhance communities.

The process consisted of managing an art committee, pitching overarching strategy, finding emerging regional photographers, presenting them to the client, managing creative process over six months, curating images and stories, finalising documentation, marketing and press releases, as well as installing the final exhibition.

For the artists, we put the focus on emerging photographers by sourcing via social media. We managed the artists, assisted them finding subjects, circulated their bios, mentored throughout the project and provided critical feedback and exposure.

The exhibition was shown at Parliament House of NSW, in March 2018, and is to travel amongst regional galleries, in order to strengthen the tenets of the Ageing Strategy.

It consisted of a hundred works across five artists: of which thirty were print works to show in exhibition and thirty were digital images, which are to be used in media and marketing for FACS. They consisted of intimate photographic portraits, with each photograph accompanied by a short story, highlighting the subject’s experiences and reflections on ageing.

“It's said that we should 'listen to our elders',” said Tim White, one of the five photographers. “Perhaps one of the most important things these people could teach us is living authentic, stunning & joyous lives.”
